Opossums
Some Background
Opossums are America’s only marsupial. They are scavengers and opportunistic omnivores, frequently feeding on ticks, grubs, small snakes, trash and whatever else they happen to come across when hungry. By nature opossums are docile creatures, mostly choosing to flee rather than fight aggressors. They also have a natural immunity to rabies, their body temperature being too low for the virus to survive.
Opossums are capable climbers, frequently finding themselves in attics via entrances created by other animals or weather events that leave holes in rooflines and soffits. They also use burrows previously dug by other animals, and find themselves under structures and in crawlspaces in this way.
Exclusion
While inspecting your home, we will identify both current and possible future entry points for the animals. Once those areas are identified, we can provide solutions to your current problem and preventatives to keep more problems from coming up in the future.
Our exclusion work comes with a one-year warranty and plans to extend that timeframe. We use materials that the animals cannot get through or move, keeping the aesthetics of your home in mind so that our work is also as visually pleasing as possible.
Removal
In most instances, trapping is the preferred method for removing opossums. As with every species we deal with, we use humane traps and trapping methods to remove the animals. In other instances, such as when opossums are “playing dead” or stuck somewhere, as they frequently are, removing them by hand may be the better method.
During inspection, we will identify the entrance the animal is using and select the appropriate method for removing the animals. As with every job we do, we ensure no animals will be trapped inside the attic upon closing the entry point being used.
