Bat Services

Some Background

Here at Emerald Coast Wildlife Control, bats hold a special place. Though often feared and given a bad rap, these flying mammals provide tremendous value to our ecosystem.

Bats naturally find solace to roost in caves and trees. At night, they leave their roost, eating as much as half their bodyweight in insects every night, including mosquitoes (and we’re fans of anything that eliminates mosquitoes). All bat species are federally protected, meaning the only legal and humane method for removing bats is through exclusion between the dates of August 14th to April 16th, the time between being the period when colonies of bats have young that cannot yet fly.

Bat Boxes

Bat boxes are man-made, artificial roosts that bats can use to stay when they migrate to the area. We would encourage everyone to consider having us install a bat box on your property to give these endangered mammals a place to stay while they help control the immediate insect population.

One issue that is close to our hearts at this company is wildlife conservation, and offering bat boxes is just one way we try to do our part to help keep the natural ecosystem intact while also doing our due diligence to our customers in helping to control nuisance wildlife.

If you choose to have a bat box installed, we do recommend also having us exclude your house for bats in order to keep them out of your home when they are around.

Removal through Exclusion

In order to effectively remove bats, during the inspection we identify where the colony is currently roosting and any places around the home where they might move to after being excluded from their roost. Bats in the panhandle can fit through gaps as small as 3/8”, therefore a thorough inspection is required.

Once out of the “blackout dates”, we will close up all the identified gaps where the colony may move to during the eviction. We use devices that will allow the bats to leave the roost, but not return after feeding. The colony will find its new roost outside of your home. Once we have verified that the entire colony has moved on, we will complete the exclusion by removing the excluder device and completing the seal-up of your home.
